We invite you to an original guided tour of the Time and Loop exhibition at Galeria Biała, during which Magdalena Ciemierkiewicz will talk about the works presented at the exhibition. The exhibition is built around themes related to the local history of south-eastern Poland and the ways of understanding and experiencing spirituality, which is particularly important in these areas. In her activities, the artist repeatedly refers to the microhistory of the peripheries, struggling with multi-generational trauma, cultural amnesia, as well as a difficult heritage that still shapes the present.

One of the main areas of Magdalena Ciemierkiewicz’s interest is the issue of multicultural, interpenetrating identity and work on long-term traumas, sometimes spanning several generations, especially in rural areas. A special approach to autobiographical topics, including research into the local, historical context of her place of origin, became important in her works. An important aspect of her work is social relations, including intercultural and intergenerational ones. By combining various media, but also local micro-stories, the artist engages various audiences in her activities, e.g. villagers, especially women, to whom herstory often refers. The exhibition presents works created in 2016-22, including collages, graphics, video and artistic fabric.
