Danuta Krupska-Sołowiej yet again manages to surprise us with the metamorphosis of her art. However, what changes this time is not only the painting technique. More important is the effort she made to sharpen and improve the way she perceives the world around her.

Artist’s paintings created within the last couple of years reveal her recent metamorphosis. This time, however, it is difficult to label them with one general theme. The world of the new paintings is governed by different poetics, poetics filled with narration and anecdote. There are more elements painted in a more realistic style (portraits, silhouettes of people, buildings). The way the paintings are organized is also different. At first glance the world portrayed seems incoherent, the settings overlap and transcend each other but remain independent. The fragments of presented reality blend together, their relations interfere with the traditional perception of time and space. The seeming lack of coherence of the paintings is what we are intrigued by the most. What we see here is the record reflecting the chaos that governs our perception of the world. Linearity and coherence of the message is the tradition resulting from the habit to describe the world through verbal language.

We perceive the world through the limits of the language, which makes us forget that perception is rather a sequence of images and associations brought together by accident and governed by chaos. The artist reminds us that our perception of the world is in fact nothing more than multiplying memories, expectations, a mix of melodies and tastes. Despite the fragmented narration, blurring and unreality of the painted scenes, the artist manages to create a coherent and convincing artistic message from those chaotic bits and pieces. (…)
