The current Maciejuk’s exhibition at the Biała Gallery is a continuation of a project first presented in 2010 at the Foksal Gallery in Warsaw. In his paintings, objects and drawings he began to search for the so-called “objective truth” as a system of conduct. And it is not so much about finding it, but rather realizing that it is pragmatically impossible. What is important here is the effort made and the effect inscribed in mistakes and imperfections. The artist applies two different approaches or measures to reach this truth. One of them is sticking to the rational scientific system, the other is turning to the spiritual sphere. The direct message of Maciejuk’s visual works may be unclear on its basic level. However, once we learn what were the reasons behind their creation, we decode the system inscribed in them and begin to understand the meanings carried by mistakes, elements that were left out or uncertainties.

Robert Maciejuk (born 1965) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he lives and works.
